There are two things that I would like to know. First of all, is this on the basis of religion or what ? Second of all, I thought Syria was fighting Israel to the last breathe and it was calling itself the progressor of arabism ?
So basically, Syria is cutting deals with the Israelis who will export apples to syria from it's own territory. I'm just baffled by this and shocked. I thought Lebanon had sisterly ties with Syria, but apparently only they are allowed to export their 3rd class fruit to Lebanon but we're not allowed to export any of our products. We have farmers dying of hunger and syria is buying fruit from Israel, what is this ? I'm lost for words. It just shows the real intentions of the syria regime.
PS : I wonder what would happen if the Lebanese tried importing fruit from Shebaa | | | | | Registered Member

You dont have to be shocked. Syria has been trying to sign peace with Israel since the days of Hafez.
As for the Lebanese, ye3neh, these days if a Lebanese utters the words "peace" and "Israel" in the same sentence, he's labeled a "pro-Israeli", "Zionist", "traitor", etc etc.
Every country should do what is in its interest, and our best interest is peace with our neighbors and neutrality.
Unfortunately, it'll probably take another war for us to wake up out of this deep sleep.
By the way, nothing beats the Lebanese apple.

The apples imported by Syria are sold by Syrian citizens under israeli occupation.
Chebaa farms are not exploited by their owners, the lebanese citizens of Chebaa.
So it is not at all the same case.

So it is not at all the same case. | How's it not the same case when ur removing economic burden of Israel ? These people are paying taxes to Israel and are therefore indirectly funding the Israelis. They're members of the fruit grower's association of Israel. Enough said.

As for the apple purchase, this has been going on for decades, it is done to show the committment of the syrians government to the syrian residents in Golan heights. So nothing newwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

You seem to only see what you believe. I don't know about israeli taxes, even if I suppose that there is no taxes on exported products...
Anyway, the syrian decision concerned syrian citizens of Golan and it helps them to stay in their land.
Suppose that there are apples in Chebaa farms, buying these products from israel will not help any lebanese citizen. Contrary, this is bad for the lebanese apple production.
I don't know why you remind me with your arguments the FM propaganda, they are always searching "la petite bête" on GMA or HN. They don't hesitate to use ridiculous argument. If your post is to criticize Syrian government, you can post it directly to a syrian official website. Otherwise, what is your goal ? | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

It has been spoken about in the foum, I can't find it back. A huge majority of the golan inhabitents have taken the israeli citizenship and an even huger majority of them are 200% against returning to Syria!! I will find the thread and post a link to it . | | | | | Registered Member

Hassan the problem is that this sale of apples from Golan will be used as a cover up to sell apples or maybe other products by israeli settlers.
Bottom line, Syria is helping the economy of Israel and helping Israeli settlements, not syrian people under occupation.
I don't think you would agree with this.
