The Syrian regime only prepares to crush any opposing movement in case Israel attacks it. The regime comes first :)

I doubt Syria can win anything, on the ground, in the air, in sea, in space, in their dreams even!

To win you need to have the minimum foundations required to fight a balanced war, something the Syrians lack. The reason Arabs have consistently lost (and probably will lose) the last 100 years of wars is because they think that if they buy weapons, or have superior numbers they can win.

Something to reflect upon, an analogy of sorts. You can't win a race barefoot. You can't win a race by having the best shoes. You can't win a race if you are well-fed. You can't win a race if you want to. The right combination will give you favorable odds to win a race.

Syrian ,a small minority can not rule differently so dont expect anything good from this family.

and yes, i support a war to recover the Golan (and why not, to eliminate israel from the map)
Umm... You just completely missed the point of my question. I was asking you if Hafez El-Assad ever consulted the Baath party, and therefore marginalized them. If he did, then that wouldn't mean anything if his son is doing the same thing.

Why did the thread turn into a syria bashing one ???

Anyway, syrians & iranian's are building armies that can repell attacks and do great damage, not attack armies, so if anything syria is preparing to retaliate in case israel hits or tries some stunts, thats it, at least in my opinion .

You can in no way compare the Syrian army to the Iranian, whether in terms of weaponry, training, funding or logitics. Iran has an army able to conquer rather than defend, while Syria's is much more limited.

Can you please refresh my memories of when the Syrians entered a war to help the Lebanese? In 1976 when they sent their soldiers across the border disguised at the Palestinians Sa3ika to commit massacres (e.g. Damour), in 1978 when they attacked the Lebanese army in Fyadieh? in 1980 when they attacked ZaHle? in 1982 when they fled in front of the israelis? In 1983 when they destroyed Tripoli? In 1989 when they destroyed the free areas? on October 13th 1990, when they invaded the free areas and massacred soldiers, officers and civilians? And I'm sparring you all the political killings (Hassan Khaled, Rene Moawad, Kamal Joumblatt, etc.)

Or in 1996 when they sat by watching when Israel destroyed Lebanon and committed the Qana massacre? Or in 2006 again when the same thing happened?

That means that your army improved in a stellar way since 1990... You couldn't win over an army 1 / 10 of your size that had about 100 antique tanks and way less fire power that you guys had.... And you had to rely on your planes to get in... after we've agreed to a cease fire...

I mean it could have been that you experienced an impressive improvement but then again, given that you have not fought since, we cannot judge.

And regarding the initial question, how would this war start? My opinion is the entire world would (except Iran) just love to sit and watch the Syrian regime destroyed and the Americans would replace one Alaoutie dictator with a Sunnite one (Khaddam)...

I guess the only thing preventing this is Iran's protection and the fact that Syria has not given an excuse to Israel yet...

Let's wait and see...

The only thing that scares in a war between Israel and Syria is the safety of our heroes / prisoners in Syrian Mazze... Could you please send them back to us before you do anything?
Thanks

Agreed with Zero Cult. Iran may have passed though phases in its history where its role and power were reduced. Let's not forget however, that it is the "Persian Empire". Syria on the other hand is only "powerful" in Hafez Al Asad's political genius (even though he was a ruthless dictator).

I think that there's a war soon between America and Iran for many reasons, one of them, the nuclear weapon..
But I think that Syria will not participate to this war.. In my opinion I think that Syria is an American allie and she got orders from Americans.. She will not participate to war wiz Iran, and also not vs Iran..
Cz if she did,she will be totally destroyed cz Israel will start with Syria which is the nearest..
Maybe she'll help Iran by sendin her some troups of army, but I think no war in Syria..

Peace.

No, this is not what that means. It would have been stupid if Syria did not learn something from the July war. Israel is their enemy also and they would have tried to learn as much as possible from this war.

Don't be too sensitive
