Nelson Mandela won the Nobel prize for peace in 1993 for changing the racist system in South Africa and getting the white and black communities into a peaceful agreement.. he spent 20 years in prison to get there.

maybe he's a good fellow, but he was not able to make Israel TEMPORARILY stop building settlements in the west bank. Iraq is not better, Iran is testing its rockets every week or so, more US and nato soldiers are dying in Afghanistan, more civilians dying everywhere, Iraq is only calm coz of Iran and Saudi..

so where's the peace? please enlighten me!! please.

well i never killed anybody, i was vegetarian for 3 years as well, why don't i get Nobel Prize for peace?

wouldn't it be better if he gets it AFTER Iraq and Afghanistan are stable and peaceful?

but then again, Shimon Peres and Yasser Arafat share the Nobel peace prize, and guess what, there aint no peace. its a joke

Man u seriously have some reading problems! Where did you see that I was defending Obama's Nobel Prize win? In fact if you read carefully my first posts, you'll see that I'm not!

When Desmond Tutu won the Nobel Prize in 1984 to end the Apartheid, he has tried to end it...

when the journalist got Nobel Prize in 1935, this guy was already fighting the Nazis in his own way..
when Carter got Nobel Prize, he already succeeded in making enemies shake hands and sign peace.

When President Wilson got the prize, he has already established the League of Nations.. etc..
etc..

the difference between all those winners and Obama is simple... they TRIED or actually ACCOMPLISHED something in terms.. they tried and perhaps failed...
Obama has not even tried... his speeches are not different from any head of nation: "We are actively trying to achieve peace for ourselves and for our children to leave happily forever..." even George W Bush said that...

and whatever Obama promised before the elections regarding nuclear weapons, closure of Guantanamo, etc...
well these were not the highlights of his campaign... and so far, Guantanamo is still open and there are no serious plans for getting rid of nuclear in the world...

i kind of agree with people who said that the Prize was a prize to the US people having elected an African-American and this reason should be considered an insult by any adult US citizen...
the other reason is the global Bush hatred which is also a silly reason to award a nobel prize...

i think the Prize has actually damaged Obama presidency rather than fortify it...
