Right at the beginning of the primaries, I said exactly the same thing. I was absolutely sure that America is not ready yet to elect a woman or an African-American President. I was sure the next President will be the Republican nominee.
A month or two into the primaries, I was surprised not by the first results but rather by the attitude of voters I thought would be opposed the most to electing a woman or an African-American. Every time I talked to one such voter, I was stunned to find out that he/she will support Obama (or Clinton to a lesser degree).
Today, I can say with confidence that "I was wrong". America is ready to elect a minority President.
The sentiment against the Bush administration (for their failed economy and foreign policy) is so strong among American voters that I can confidently say, barring any "major" yet unrevealed scandal, the game is over. There will be, of course, those who will still vote against Obama because of his race. However, regardless of their numbers, they will not make up for the voters who will vote against the Bush policies.
Game over.
The funny part is that I am still undecided whom to support: Obama or McCain :)
