Default A call for the Lebanese gov. to do the same: electricity savings program - 11th August 2008

The Lebanese electricity company is one of the public institutions that have the most deficit.

Syria has launched an electricity savings program by promoting low-energy bulbs to be used instead of traditional bulbs, as the following article explains: (Taken from SyriaNews)

Syrian thanks for the advice I think what Lebanon and your country should be doing is instead of looking for ways to save energy we should be adapting new energy sources like wind mill and solar systems. I've worked in Holland for almost a year and around 40% of their electricity resources is coming from windmills.

But of course the mafia politicians in Lebanon will not permit such means because they can't make $$$

Dear Aoun4lebanon

you are right. Renewable energy is one of the best forms of energy one can invest in, especially that our region is blessed with a shining sun for an extended period of time during the year...

The syrian government is also making publicity to encourage people to install solar panes... the government has lifted support on diesel, and so prices have risen 400%, and people should find new and less expensive ways to provide heating and electricity...

Both syria and lebanon should have a program to save energy... lebanon lives constant energy crises, and many people have no electricity for 20 hours a day... many times, syria gives energy to lebanon...

We need to be smarter and more efficient... i hope a common program will be put in place when embassies open and ministers get to meet...

Syrian, Lebanese are too sophisticated to use those strangely looking light bulbs. Why would they do it anyway in addition to having an extra cost as I think each of those bulbs costs like 25 times more than a regular one.

Anyway, we like to pay higher electricity bills so we could always have something to rant about, especially EDL - so please don't deprive us of this pleasure.

I think the best bet we have for our countries is to promote the idea and cross our fingers we find honest investors and I mean not someone from the Baath mafia or our 14 feb thugs manipulating this technology. We should encourage private investors. Besides I think Syria has advanced quite nicely with building dams and this is were I can see us benefiting from your knowhow.

Its an excellent suggestion. And any minor 5 min research online would show any lebanese that it is better to use these bulbs as the benefits are within the long term. Having said that it still needs getting used to and no one will implement it by JUST word of mouth. We need a public education programme consisting of just a few tv ads [or none at all] and those advertising boards that are polluting what is left of our beautiful nature. let them be good for something at least.

parallel investment should be made into windmills. we get a ridiculous amount of wind offshore as well as in the mountains. granted, you do need quite a few of these to be effective so a study should be made to see if they would become an eye sore. once you start talking about studies being made you can kiss it goodbye.

as for solar energy. these dont require large farms maintained by the govt. this can be done by every single building out there. for this reason a public awareness program would get the job done. just to spoon feed for them on tv that you save and probably make money by putting solar panels on your roof [retrofitting your home to be green].

JUST IMAGINE HOW EASY IT IS TO CIRCUMVENT THE GENERATOR MAFIA.

JUST IMAGINE HOW EASY IT WOULD BE TO DRASTICALLY REDUCE THE IMP[ACT OF FUTURE ISRAELI RAIDS ON OUR ELEC STATIONS.

it wont make you completely self-sufficient but it will make an incredible difference for yourself. forget the environment.

in parallel getting the order of engineers and architects to issue mandatory green building applications in building designs would go a long way of making this happen FAST.

THATS INCENTIVE for FPM [or any other political party for that matter] to have a greenline in their campaign programme during those ridiculous order of engineers and architects elections.
