The Congress is crying stop, his European allies are crying stop, his old Cold War foe is crying stop, but he is not listening. He is the war-mad US President George W. Bush, the leader that has turned the Middle East upside down in six years. And he's showing no signs of slowing down.
Fresh off a catastrophic failure in Iraq, the President incredibly believes he will be able to triumph in a war with its more powerful neighbour, Iran. How Bush has arrived at such a conclusion has left many of us at wonders.
Bush and his neocons have begun their tirade of accusations at Iran over its supposed meddling in Iraqi affairs which are costing US military lives. Of course, neither Bush nor his neocons have been able to produce any evidence. The same song was sang four years ago in the leadup to the war in Iraq, and we all know now that was a lie, and I doubt many are willing to fall for the same trick twice.
What is dangerous for us all is that Bush is preparing for a military confrontation with Iran despite the vociferous calls against any such action.
However, what is more dangerous is the utter destruction that will consume the Middle East. No war against Iran will be confined within its boundaries. It will spread as Iran's allies throughout the Middle East will rise to the cause.
Since the US' invasion of Iraq, the region has been transformed into a two team confrontation, each side led respectively by the Americans and the Iranians. The increasing Shiite-Sunni tension in the region has the Arab world on edge.
Syria's Alawite leadership (an offshoot of Shia Islam) and Iran have deepened their alliance in face of growing US-Israeli aggression in the region, as well as Washington's successful enlisting of the main Sunni Arab states in Bush's neocon team.
That's not to forget Iran's other regional proxies, such as Hezbollah whom successfully defeated Israel last summer in what could have been the trial for an upcoming greater war Bush and Olmert are seeking with Iran. Lebanon's situation is volatile, with Iran and Syria's supported Opposition in a restrained deadlock with the pro-American/Saudi Sunni-led Government.
In Palestine, Iranian and Syrian-backed Hamas have loosely managed to starve off tensions with Israel's preferred Palestinian leader, Fatah's Abu Mazen.
Iran's Shia allies are also keeping the lids on their barrels, with its main ally Moqtada al-Sadr maintaining a low profile on the political scene to avoid any immediate confrontation. This is also not to undermine the sizeable Shi'ite minorities throughout the Gulf states, where Iran's arm is also visible. Indeed, Tehran's reach is quite extensive.
If the US and/or Israel launch a war on Iran, the Ayatollah's proxies will be unleashed throughout the region. Civil war will come to Lebanon, with Israeli and Syrian tanks rolling back in; the Palestinians will tear up any agreement and return to street battles; Iran's sleeping Iraqi giant, its Shia allies, will ensure plenty of American bodybags will keep the US media busy; if Syria sticks true to its recent defense pact with Iran, it will join the war with the Golan Heights specifically in its sights; and Turkey will undoubtedly invade northern Iraq and crush the Kurds.
We shall witness the worst war of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Rivalries will be drawn in from every angle, and every side will pay a terrible price. Iran, Syria and Hezbollah's missiles will rain down on Israel like never before; Tehran, Damascus, and Beirut will join Baghdad in the burning cities list; the US will suffer huge casualties in Iraq; Western economies will be screaming for an end as oil prices rise to inexplicable levels; and most importantly, the civilian toll and humanitarian crisis that will ensue will be one of the worst in recent times.
Literally speaking, the entire Middle East will be in flames.
It is a bonus that most of us in the world foresee the horror a strike on Iran will ultimately cause. Unfortunately, neither the American public, the Democrats, the Europeans, the Russians, nor the Chinese have been able to dissuade Bush and the Israelis from pursuing this deadly road.
All we can do is pray that the November 2008 US Presidential elections comes fast enough to prevent a Middle Eastern armageddon. | | | | | Registered Member

| There's plenty of evidence and there has been for years that Iran is supplying arms and training and even some personnel to Iraq insurgency. The question is who is authorizing it? But it's been pretty clear that technology has come from Iran. Even the most liberal of journalists will attest to that. Quote: |

| Pretty simplistic view of the entire region. So does that make the current leadership in Lebanon American and the opposition Iran? Things are a whole lot more complex than that. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main...13/wiran13.xml Quote: |
If the US and/or Israel launch a war on Iran...[deleted 3rd world war prediction
| Meh. If the US and/or Israel launched an attack on Iran, Iran would get upset and there'd be more bombings in Iraq and maybe some other areas. But not much else would happen. Certainly not the doomsday you predicted. Iran has regional power through money and covert military influence. If it "took to the streets" with any forces, they'd just be destroyed. They're far better waiting it out until America leaves and then they can exert their influence more directly.
Which is why the latest sweeps through southern Iraq have been met with almost no resistance.
I think the latest noise is just a warning, and even if the Iranian President doesn't heed it, I think the religious authority is smart enough to. | | | | | Registered Member

look, for me Bush is a hero and i am a FPMer !! Khallas ba2a, Bush ousted the Syrian , without Bush and his crazy policies, the Syrian would have stayed for 50 more years, General Aoun would have died in exile because too old, Hariri would have taken all the money left and SG very old and completly broken in Jail !
Eventhough we can criticize Bush for what he is doing now, we will never forget how Bush was important in the liberation of Lebanon.

| Iran isn't arming the opposition. They are arming Shiities, period. It has nothing to do with invaders, it has everything to do with ethnicity.
"Iran's secretive Quds Force, accused by the United States of arming Iraqi militants with deadly bomb-making material, has built up an extensive network in the war-torn country, recruiting Iraqis and supporting not only Shiite militias but also Shiites allied with Washington. YOUR GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO DILUTE THE ISSUE BY MAKING THE PEOPLE THINK IRAN IS THE PROBLEM, WHILE THE REAL CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM IS THE INVASION.
That does not matter, as long as these people are fighting occupiers, who have no legal basis to be in the country, then it is not only ok for Iran to support these groups, it is expected of them. I feel sorry for all these US soldiers being slaughtered in Iraq for Bush. It's disgusting, but facts are facts, and they shouldn't be there and Iran should be helping the resistance, shia or sunni.
The sources for your article are not credible. This is behind the desk journalism which uses its source as the US army, rediculous. | | | | | Registered Member
