Road trips in Europe are pretty expensive, between the cost of fuel in Europe and the toll highways you end up paying a high price for what you pay less by plane but drive along the Mediterranean cost is pretty scenic, I don't know which roads you will be crossing but there might be some mountains on your way and you might face heavy snow so prepare yourself for this. You also need visa and with the H1N1 scare you might be screened quarantined in some countries, inquire about that before leaving.

Z-man, why don't you try a road trip to Istanbul?

It would give you a idea of driving such long distances and the weather shouldn't be that harsh on the roads that you would take between Lebanon, Syria and Turkey.

Did it on a motorcycle - passed Paris, arrive in UK and back to spain and back to Beirut.

The roads become really nice the minute you pass the Lebanese border.
Plan on getting the visas first
Dont worry about hotels, there are plenty on the way. The coast of turkey is really pretty, but very long, and it snakes alot.
Be prepared for all sort of weather. The balkans were really good and people are absolutely friendly. Always obey street signs and make sure you get insurance for you, your passengers AND your car for every country. Ask your local Lebanese insurance if its valid for international travel, other than the "sisterly" country next to us.

If you have a chance to do this trip, regardless of expensive or cheap, its a dream and you should do it. Its harder when you get older.

One thing for sure, get a Lebanese plate that has non arabic numbers, switch it at the border when you cross into Turkey.

Enjoy the food, you will make alot of new friends, strike conversations with strangers, they will invite you in to stay with them, or give you advice on roads...etc.

You will be famous for sure. One important factor, the type of car you are driving, some Euro laws requires some bullcrapster sticker to be placed on the front lights. Expect them trying to force you to change things on your car.

Your car has to be reliable! Make it a Toyota Truck or something :)

Good luck and make sure you log your trip on this board so we can keep track on your *butt*

my cousin did it in the summer (but from Italy not France). He drove all the way to Athens and then took a ferry all the way to Lebanon. He and his family really enjoyed it and the whole trip took them 4 days.
