Default Public Transportation in Lebanon - 28th June 2008

lebjournal - One of the biggest problems that Lebanon faces is the problem of public transportation. Public transportation is made up from buses and taxi cabs. But what are the causes of the problem of public transportation in Lebanon? Would there be a solution for this huge problem?

There are many causes that it increased this problem until it became so huge. The first and most important cause is the huge number of buses and taxi cabs that work in public transportation. This problem was caused by one of the governments during the 90’s. This government took a decision to increase the number of taxi cabs and buses in Lebanon as a way to solve the problem of public transportation and to increase the coverage of public transportation throughout Lebanon. But instead of solving this problem, this solution has increased the problem. This increase in the number of taxi cabs and buses made the drivers to race each other to get a customer and this has lead to many car accidents. Another cause for this problem is the increase in the fuel’s costs that causes the drivers to increase their fees, which will lead more people to walk or uses buses instead of taxi cabs. This will cause a lot of taxi drivers to stop working or barely work. What I mentioned above are some causes for this huge problem that Lebanon is facing.

Although the problem of public transportation is so huge, we can still find a huge solution to solve this problem. First, the Lebanese government should control the public transportation by decreasing the number of buses and taxi cabs. By this way, the drivers, who will stay working , will work more and earn more money. Also, the government should specify the district in which every taxi cab and bus will work. Thus in that way we can use the taxi cabs and buses that we have in an efficient way. In addition to that, the government should find a special way to reduce the fuel cost for taxi cabs and buses so that the drivers may keep a stable fee and earn a good amount of money in which they can live with their families in a good circumstances of living. This would be a solution for the huge problem of public transportation that we are facing in Lebanon.

At the end, the government should take serious and fast action to solve this huge problem before it reaches a place in which there is no solution and from which there is no return.
