ahhhh Lebgirl, I was going to ask what do the members think if the mother is Lebanese and the father is Palestinian, because that's the situation of my best friend who lives in Kfarchima...

He doesn't feel any belonging to Palestine (and neither does his father by the way). We used to go together to Baabda in 1989/1990, and he was at Martyre's Day almost everyday during this year's Cedar Revolution...

Is he allowed "tawteen" then? Hay elak jouj man...

Default Lebanese women's rights: Let the lebanese woman be able to give the lebanese nationality to her kids - 6th August 2008

Hello all,
the inequality between men and women in the world is big and in Lebanon it's quite shameful.
Women are still considered second class citizens (we're neither Iran nor Saudi Arabia).

Women do not have the right to give the lebanese nationality to her kids if her husband is not Lebanese.
But the man can..

Why is that?

Are you with or against this law and why ?

What do you plan on doing about it ?

Mods please could you add a poll (yes or no and make it public..thx)

Lebanese women should have the right to pass their nationality to their children and husbands. It's a form of discrimination against us women. Plus, children have to pay costly residence permits and are not allowed to work in Lebanon which forces them to leave, while Lebanon needs educated fresh blood.

What we can do is organize sit-ins in front of the cabinet, get media coverage, etc. Finally, we should increase women's representation in the government.

This is one of the issues, women do not have the right to travel without their husband's approval same thing for opening a bank account. But most of these retarded laws are being ignored except the nationality one as i suppose.
Did you even know that a policeman/army man gets a salary bonus if he has mustaches?
Our laws are extremely old.
Discrimination is on a high Level in Lebanon. The "sharaf" crime is one of the stupid laws as well.

Why not invite an FPM MP (Gilberte Zouein?) to give her input on the matter?

With all due respect, what has she accomplished since 2005?

What about Lebanese men conferring their nationality to their non-national wives?

The forum administrators didn't deem this thread important enough to be in the political section as it was respected in the first place, so I don't think that they will be very eager to invite miss Zouein here eventhough I think it would be a great idea

i opened bank account without asking his approval and i have travelled to many places without his signature the only signature you need for kids is when you go to syria while crossing the borders..concerning women can't give their kids lebanese nationality if married to non leb its true..i donno why but i think it is really stupid decision taken by the government and they should study that carefully and let women's kids carry leb nationality as it is not fair at all not to the women nor their kids...so what to do i guess women should do sth towards that and claim harder for their request
