Mount Amel,
Thx, i hope you will help us in the fight especially to change these unfair laws despite all you said and believe, i am sure you know what's right.

Thank you lebgirl ... but again my point was to consider the cultural differences between us and other countries. We need laws that dosnt contradict with our traditions and beleifs. It may differ from what you see in USA , and i tell you it can be better of what you see in USA ...

Salam

This is not a place for chatting. There's a topic here so if any constructive argument is to be done, welcome. Otherwise, you would be wasting your time (and ours)

Good Motorcity hope to see you in our protest march soon
About the Naming issue, I agree. putting just the father's surname or the mother's only, would just been a discrimination.
I favor putting both parents names. As this child does inherite both from his mum and dad's background.
However I would say that this is not an urgent issue we have more dangerous discriminating laws that must be tackled before talking "technicalities"
It just reminds me how some KSA's women back in 1990 were asking for the right.... to drive! I mean their most elementary human rights are violated and all what these ladies were asking for was the right to .... Drive!

I just joined you in the other topic you launching when you said that this is our culture and we cannot change it.

The fact is that change has begun years ago as per this patriarchal culture belonging of kids. When you decide to share the father's culture solely with your child , you are depriving him/her from another sense of belonging. This would be reflected as the child grows up and starts asking question about this matriarchal cultural inheritance.

Your assumption which you approve is a result of a discriminating culture that the society is inheriting throughout the years. Yet this culture has changed and it will change furthermore.
Years ago women were not allowed to vote.............. as of 1952 they can.
Years ago women were not allowed to study................as of the late 40's they can
Years ago women were not allowed to choose their life partner.............. such folkways faded away.
Years ago women were not allowed to work.......................... and yet again, mores changed.
The List is long but we are still facing discrimination in some laws AND in the lebanese mentalities (like yours for instance lol)... A lot of work needs to be done.
Care to join us?

Other cultures were also discriminatory and changed with time. Change is not necessarily degrading it can be for the better too. And just because the laws in Lebanon do not affect you personally, does not mean they are acceptable.

I do not get it. If you have new family names that means you're dividing the country? Besides that can be fixed by allowing children to have both parents' family names.

I know many LEBANESE children living abroad whose father is lebanese (not the mother) who do not speak a word of lebanese (because their father sees them very little and the mother is the one to teach them and the country they live in)... So where is the belonging more to the father you are talking about? You are right it is a culture thing. But we created this culture and we are capable of changing it. Nobody would like to remove all the rights that men have and move them to women, we would like to have a fair law that protects all its citizens equally.

walk shoo kan badeh bhal 3al2a ...

again , the above quote say it all ..

We as a different culture from others ,means we have different ethical and moral codes to be the base of our change .. it would make our change better and not like in USA or any european country ...
