As for the consulate, I dono about which country u r talked but It is not the case in the consulate of "civilized countries".

And you are so RIGHT about the passport issue.
Actually if the kids are < ~9y, both the mother and father must sign the request for the passport. When the kids are older, the mother is just an accessory and only the father's signature is requested...

And yet again they ask for our vote in the elections! frankly we should sanction ALL current 128MPs as they have proven to be incompetent in ALL possible fields including Women's rights defence.

well i guess ur lucky cause friends of mine was stoped at the airport we were going on vacation , as she had a leb pass they asked to see the permission i interfeer cause i know that in frensh consulate they ask for husband permission to issue a visa (so the visa is in a way the permission) cause this is the lebanese law so the french (as well as all EC countries) asked to respect it , in leb a woman doesnt have the right to travel without the ok of her hubby !

lol... u must be greatfull they let u vote ! at least we r better then lots of other women in arab countries !! look at the bright side

a single women in Lebanon ha smor rights than a married woman
To speed up the prodess of equality, women should abstain from marriage. Those who accept to go to church to marry & listen to the priest saying the man is the head of the woman, & they agree, don't want too much of rights, & are participating in postponing the others rights as well (mou3arada ihtiwa2ieh:). I was participating in feminists activities a long time ago, & I noticed that we're doomed by women's passivity the same as by men's arrogance if not more.

Dans mes bras lubnaniyat! It is quite a slap in the face of women. And the mambo jambo allegedly called "advices" women have to listen to from religious figures prior to the wedding ceremony are even more insulting.
Yet again, most lebanse women "live with it" and don't fight these daily insults...

Well your friends and Serenity's were abused and should have made a scandale because THIS LAW law was abolished in 1974!!!!
You can check all the reports of Human rights NGO and UN and lebanese laws.

AUB STudy on Women's rights in Lebanon
"Till 1974, the public security departments required the signed approval of the husband allowing his wife's traveling, also certified by the mayor, whenever she applied for a passport. This is no more required"

And from UN CEDAW report on Lebanon
"Lebanese Women can obtain a passport and leave the country without their husband’s approval, unless there is a marital or legal judgment that forbids them from travelling."

Furthermore, THe married women I know never got asked for their husband's approval when asking for UE Visa.
so you can spread the word to your female married friends. Next Time don't accept such requests as per UDHR, UE convention and Lebanese law.

All this is a disgrace and a shame for women..this summer I will carry a great research on the discriminations on women rights...and after this...everyone can be sure..that i will commit myself to fight for the equal rights of women and other human rights issues...
If we really want a democracy..we have to start acting like a democratic country..and we are far from it....

Ya mount_amel, the Lebanese culture is a PATRIARCHAL discriminating one!
It is not because we have inherited a discriminating culture that we should ACCEPT it and live with it!
Get out from this world, read the NGO reports on Lebanon and the violation of HR and WR in our country.
REalize that what YOU are trying to justifiy is a result of years of discrimination.
You still enjoy such law and find them "just"? I feel sorry for you... specially that we are gonna fight **** hard and Change them! :-)
