lebanese men and women - 18th May 2005

What do you think about the fact that if a lebanese man marries a non lebanes ( "a russian "artist" from jounieh for instance) he gives her automatically the lebanese nationality but if a lebanese woman marries a non lebanese (european , american , any other nationality ) no matter how long he lives in lebanon , she will never be able to give him the lebanese nationality!!!!

Indeed a Lebanese woman if wed to a foreigner cannot give the Lebanese citizenship neither to her Husband nor to her Children,
This is the Lebanon of the 21st century.

Aside: Serenity, note that a russian "artist" won't be "artisting" in Lebanon if there weren't men that seek this "art".

serenety good post, and silly example!
yes it's very sad that the woman who gives birth to the child can't give him the citizenship like all the civilized countries around the world! note than in israel, only the woman can give the citizenship not the man!
this country needs a lot of change in many fields like the education and in the ppl's mentality! let's hope very soon the wind of change will blow and turn everything upside down! maybe ppl especially women will wake up and begin demanding their natural rights!

Good ladies..

Reform is essential for progress, out with the fuedalistic approach to life that is Lebanese society today, although I feel a sense of duty to say that cross-citizen marriage laws when it comes to Lebanese woman need a little more attn, in terms of:

judge and jury makin sure they're marrying a gentleman...

:p lol, sorry, dont have any sisters myself so have extended that brotherly role to cover all ladies.

this is one of the issues i am going to explore this summer for my women rights research in Lebanon this is one of the many discriminations against women in Lebanon and there are many more in the personal status law as well and also another interesting fact is that actually a single women in Lebanon ha smor rights than a married woman. When she gets married under the religious law, she looses part of her rights.
At the end of summer, I will have more information on all this and about all the discriminations women are subjected to in Lebanon.

I dont see any discrimnation in this law.
When women marries a forginer , the children will not be so faithfull to thier mom's origin country as much as thier father's. So i dont see any reason of giving them the citizenship ...........................

Could you please explain to me why the kids would be more faithful to their father's country than to their mother's? Do you have kids yourself? How much time do you spend with them compared to your wife?Who takes care of their education at home?

Lebgirl,
For your research , you probably know that:
1) a married woman traveling abroad is asked by law to present a written authorisation from her husband to travel !!!!!
2) a mother does not have the right to open a joint bank account with her minor kids without having the husband as a coholder, whereas it is not the same for the father.

Keep me posted please on your research. If you need help , give me a sign.
