Default how expensive is it going to be to fly to Lebanon? - 17th January 2009

many lebanese live abroad and are planning to visit Lebanon during the summer.. of course, many are planning to go there to vote...

i was surprising to find out that airplane tickets are at an all-time high, even higher than last summer when the price of oil was more than 140$/barrel..

now the price of oil went down below 40$ and the world economy is at least slowing down not to say full blown recession...

any one has any idea why airline carriers are keeping their prices up?

PS: high prices will make more expensive on Hariri to bring hordes of immigrants to vote next June... haha

I was wondering about the same thing, prices are unbelievably high from here (L.A.) to Beirut, but i can promess, me and every one here that i know are going to be there regardless. We try to go down there every summer anyway but this next one, it is our duty as FPMers to go there and represent for our beloved General, so we will be there nomatter what the prices are.
As for the other part of your post, i am already hearing echos among the Lebanese community in L.A. and specifically the Long Beach area, of some contacts being made with people around here regarding one week round trip tickets to Beirut being given out for free. Hmmm i wonder what that is all about..

Actually, in Canada's case, our dollar depreciated in the last year vs the US one because of oil and lack of demand for natural ressources. That's why we are paying higher this year to travel. Now, an average ticket during the "high season" is around 1 600 $ CAN on a average airline carrier such as EgyptAir. If you pick an european airline carrier, it reaches almost the 2000$. Last year, the canadian dollar had almost parity with the US one that's why we paid less which gets back to the same as prices dropped but our purchasing power decreased too.

The best website to book tickets :

Cheap Travel, Flights, Hotels, Vacations, Car Rentals, Cruise, Activities on Orbitz

I compared their prices with travel agencies and they are exactly the same. (20-30$ difference). I just went through all the hassle to book my tickets for this summer.

I think a cheaper solution for people coming from north america is to go f to one of the gulf cities via europe, and then to beirut. this trip is usually $300-$400 cheaper than the regular north america-europe-beirut route.

Lebanon at a crossroad and your vote makes a difference

The American Lebanese Assembly calls on all American Lebanese to stand up and count in Lebanon’s most challenging time. Either our people secure the sovereignty and independence of Lebanon or we return to the days of darkness and occupation.
In March 2005, the people of Lebanon led the Cedar Revolution and released themselves from the tight grip of Syria’s occupation, cruelty and persecution.
The Lebanese Parliament failed to ratify a proposal to allow Lebanese expatriates to vote in the upcoming spring elections, under pressure from the Syrian-Iranian cronies, including Hizbullah, Amal, Aoun Movement, the Syrian Nationalist and Ba’ath parties.
The ALA calls on all American Lebanese at all political, social, communal and organizational levels to encourage and facilitate active participation in voting. The ALA will work with March 14 representatives to facilitate the trip to Lebanon in order to participate in the elections that will demarcate Lebanon’s freedom, independence and sovereignty.
To obtain more assistance with registration for voting and trip information please call:
John Faddoul: 216-789-0280 (Ohio), Tony Helou: 703-598-7999 (Virginia/Maryland), Joe Rached: 813-610-6100 (Florida), Charbel Moussa: 202-531-4551 (Washington D.C), David Chehade: 732-563-5200 (New Jersey), Fahim Gemayel: 440-579-1100 (Ohio), George Eid: 502-797-3159 (Kentucky), Hamid Kantara: 713-589-4440 (Texas).
Our country needs us, do not remiss our national duties!!
Your individual vote will contribute to our collective freedom.
Cheers
