Default Building a genealogy tree - 3rd January 2008

Hi,
I was wondering if some of you would be interested to build a genealogy tree for the lebanese families. In order to avoid invading people's privacy, we could set a rule to only document the people that were born in 1940 and earlier.

Great thread.

I'm particularly interested in the Aoun family genealogy. Where are GMA's parents from (i.e. before they moved to Haret Hrek)?

Also, does anyone have any info on Muslim Aouns, (which make up less than 1% of Aouns, all of whom are Shia).

If anyone has a Aoun family tree please do share!!!

GMA once said that originally they are from Jezzine, his father was the only survivor of his family from the Ottoman massacres... as far as I remember.

Now concerning family genealogies, the problem is that there's not such a good documentation of everything.. many documents burned during several wars etc. also.

Interesting. My great grandfather is a Aoun, and he was killed by the Turks also. They ambushed him on his way to a town (in what is now north phalastine) where he used to trade goods. Hopefully when i'm back in Leb i'm gonna try follow it up and do some research into it. If anyone has anymore info that'd be great!!!

Very very very difficult! We can barely trace a few generations back...

Totally agree with Dalzi. Would be extremely challenging.

As far as I can recall...there was a book published many years ago with the history of many family names in Lebanon...I have no clue what its called...any idea anyone?

There was a book published about the origin of families in some areas of Jabal Amel. It was a research done by a Dr at the Lebanese University in Saida. I can't remember the name of the book... But it too had speculations which cannot be proven.

I can trace my family tree about 1500 years back, my uncle has it displayed at his house. Very interesting to trace back.

Yours doesn't need tracing back, it's too obvious lol. I've got an idea after some field research "conducted" by a family member on our family tree (his family name is different to mine, yet we're of the same family lol), however, i still have some doubts... I'm thinking of a DNA test :D. That would make things more clear. That mystery is so tempting to uncover.

I'd like to see your family tree since there's something overlapping down the line.
