It is clearly nowadays that youth is very well driven by LF policy w 3antariyet,however (congratulations to the winners first),don't be to happy about your wins as never those elections could change anything as politics is not about losing a univeristy and gaining at another one.
Politics is a long term project, and what i can see in the LF project is a totally failure project for all means.
First, they think that they will get the christians rights. We saw what did they get.Eza w halla2 bel solta w ma akhado chi,ra7 ye2dro yjibo chi later.I don't think so
Second, winds are changing,LFers are launching hate towards syria and hizbullah in order to attract youth. So,I will look to the face of the youth when LF leader will visit syria.
Anyway,if he decide not to visit and stand alone, khaline chouf chou ra7 fi ya3mel alone.FM will soon go to syria so as jumblatt. What will geagea do back than, break his alliance with them or go to syria?on both sides the guy will be loosing.Look at the ongoing reconciliations, where is geagea?mich masmou3 7esso.
We should note that a person like jumblatt wont accept any challenge to hizb or "a war" on the hizb the way LF youth is dreaming about.
Third, remember guys 10 years ago, when the university elections were devided between tayyar anf LF (believe me,back in 1998 ,LFers were strong). However,in 2005 and 2009 ,we saw election results.so most people who were in 1998,i am so sure that they voted in 2005 and 2009 (and what were the results in most christian areas???)
Finally, politis based on hate and division will soon hit the wall. remember me in 10 years.
Even if LF get all christian deputees they can't apply their policies since deep down,no one agrees on them.

Cheers.

How to win the FPM/LF popularity war on the long term

If you really want to win the long term war on Geagea, you need to use the most basic propaganda tool there is: video!

Just have OTV and other stations repeatedly air documentaries about the war and the massacres that happened back then!

People rallied around FPM and GMA between 1988 and 2005 because of the history of others and the resistance of aounists. Few people rallied around FPM because of its political program.

Today, the older people know what each is worth, and changing their minds is useless!

The youth see in GMA an old pretentious populist in league with what many consider a fundamentalist terrorist movement! They don't know which ideology motivated this alliance.

They don't know about Geagea and Joumblatt's war crimes, they don't know about Hariri's collusion with the Syrians, they don't know about Gemayel's corruption and incompetence, they don't know about GMA and the Aounists' resistance history!

They youth are daily confronted to newspapers, television and other medias criticizing Aoun left and right! And we're letting them do it by trying to explain our motives.

However, the best defense is the attack! Last elections showed that publishing a 70-pages electoral program is inefficient. It isn't useless, as people like me are attracted to professionalism rather than cheap slogans. However, the youth are attracted to what is "cool".

During the occupation, it is rebellion that attracted the youth! March 14 2005 was the biggest proof. People went hysterical. Not because of the political ambitions of the movement, but because of the nature of it: rebellion! People went down to the streets every week, camped on Martyr Square, skipped class, etc.

It was cool. Skipping class and spending the night away from home... Just like 1968 in Europe and the US, it was simple rebellion that motivated the people, and the political reasons behind them were just pretexts to rebel! Rebel against authority, parents, church, morals, etc.

But these movements always have expiration dates. So how should we cope with this?

Whether we admit it or not, FPM's popularity has decreased. I am not predicting a further decrease, but I am warning of what may happen if we don't try to remedy against a potential further decrease!

So focus on the youth...

Not to bring back the war passion, but to educate them about the consequences of extremism and sectarianism!

Is it time to Introduce Tennis Challenge System In Football?

I am sure I am not the first to propose this solution, but how about football introduces a tennis-style challenge system? Each team are allowed to challenge three refereeing calls per game. If they make an incorrect dispute, they lose a challenge, but if they are correct, their number of challenges remain as they are.

This system has been a huge success since it was introduced to tennis, and it has had no real adverse effect on slowing down the game. To ensure this is not the case in football, perhaps a maximum of two challenges would be sensible.

When the challenge is made, the referee or fourth official is notified, a call is made to a fifth official, who has a television in front of him, the correct decision is taken, and 15 seconds later the game resumes again.

So what calls would coaches or captains be allowed to challenge? This is where things get tricky, and it is perhaps where you readers can offer your suggestions.

I would propose that you can only challenge a referee for what he awarded, rather than what he didn’t award. For example a team can argue AGAINST a penalty, an offside or over-the-line goal, or a red card, but they cannot demand that the referee award a penalty, or send a player off.

Only the big decisions are allowed to be challenged. These would include penalties, offsides and infringements that led to goals (like Henry's), and over-the-line goals, but not free kicks, corners, throw-ins, and other less major infringements.

Much more analysis is required than what I have provided here, but the original, simple idea, from which to build upon, is there, and that is that a tennis-style challenging system may actually benefit football.

It would partly put to an end the accusations that the most powerful men (like those in FIFA) are running the game, while it would also stop the complaints that the smaller teams (like Ireland) are the ones who are always penalised.

Most importantly, the formula that each team are only allowed two or three challenges a match would not destroy the flow or the traditions of the game, aspects which simply must be retained to keep the sport beautiful.

What is clear is it is unfair that a team like Ireland, who have sweated their guts out for 18 months and played the perfect 210 minutes against France, deserving to go through, are denied a spot at the World Cup in such unjust circumstances. And it is not the first time that Giovanni Trapattoni has been 'cheated' out of the World Cup...

*Belgian PM is first 'president of Europe'*
November 19, 2009 2:58 a.m. EST

London, England (CNN) -- Belgium's prime minister, Herman Van Rompuy, has been appointed the first "president of Europe," British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Thursday.

Catherine Ashton of the United Kingdom is to become the EU's foreign minister, Brown said.

The leaders of the 27 member states of the European Union made the decision behind closed doors in Brussels Thursday.

Earlier former British Prime Minister Tony Blair was ruled out of contention for EU's top job.

Brown realized Blair did not have enough support among key decision-makers to snag the new post, a Brown representative told CNN Thursday.

The post -- with duties left vague -- was created by the European Union's Lisbon Treaty, which came into force this month after years of torturous negotiations, as a replacement for the rotating six-month presidency of the bloc.

But although the EU prides itself on being a club of democracies, the process of choosing its new leader is far from transparent or open.

The people of Europe got no say, not even through their parliamentarians. There were no candidates' manifestoes. No public confirmation hearings were planned.

Blair started as the favorite. He was, according his backers (who at first included President Nicolas Sarkozy of France) just the sort of glamorous figure, recognized the world over, who would win attention for the EU and enable it to punch its weight in world affairs.

As one Indian official said: "If the EU chooses as its worldwide representative the Prime Minister of Belgium or Luxembourg I am not sure our leaders will have the time to meet him."

But others were soon arguing that, as former President George W. Bush's leading ally over Iraq, Blair is a divisive figure in Europe. The one man who might have been able to take Britain into the European single currency, he had not even attempted to do so while he was Britain's prime minister.

Public backing from Italy's Silvio Berlusconi, a joke figure to much of Europe and another Bush ally, did not help.

The fading of Blair's obvious but unannounced candidacy also has to do with another debate across Europe's capitals.

None have agreed on what the job of Council President (which will run for two and a half years, renewable once) should really be.

Do they want a glamour figure with his own agenda driving Europe or just an effective meeting chairman to prepare agendas, build consensus and take notes at four summits a year?

If it is the latter, Blair wouldn't have wanted the job, but many European leaders are damned if they are having someone who might overshadow them.

They want just a meeting chairman, the more anonymous the better -- cue the inoffensive Van Rompuy or the ultimate small-nation Eurocrat like Luxembourg's Juncker.

It is said that the whole idea of the EU having a permanent President of the Council of Ministers was sparked years ago by an alleged complaint from Henry Kissinger in his time as Secretary of State: "Who do I call when I want to speak to Europe?"

A senior Palestinian official on Tuesday accused Israel of deliberately creating "an extremely dangerous situation" in East Jerusalem, to trigger violence, justify a crackdown and tighten its grip on the disputed city.

"Israel is lighting matches in the hope of sparking a fire, deliberately escalating tensions in occupied East Jerusalem rather than taking steps to placate the situation," chief peace negotiator Saeb Erekat said in a statement before meetings later this week with U.S. President Barack Obama's envoy.

Palestinian leaders have issued a series of warnings in the past week after clashes at Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem's Old City between Israeli police and protesters, over alleged attempts by Jewish religious activists to enter the site.

Meanwhile Tuesday, the clashes resumed toward the evening as dozens of young Palestinians hurled rocks at police officers in Jerusalem's Old City. The demonstrators also set wood platforms on fire in efforts to block the streets. Police dispersed the stone throwers and traffic was restored.

The official rabbi of the Western Wall, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch, appealed to the heads of the three religions in the Old City to "find a way to restore sanity to the holy city, so that everyone can visit holy places without running into hostility and fear."

On Monday, the Western-backed Palestinian government said it would "confront Israel" diplomatically over the rise in tension, after another day of clashes between groups of stone-throwing youths and police firing tear-gas and plastic bullets.

The United States and Jordan are trying to ease the tensions surrounding the Temple Mount area in Jerusalem, with Jordan asking Israel to prevent the entry of Jews and tourists to the site until the situation calms down, sources close to the situation told Haaretz.

Confrontations continued Monday between Palestinian demonstrators and security forces. One Israeli soldier was stabbed and the number of people detained since the latest disturbances began reached 50.

Since 2003 the Israel Police has allowed free access to the Temple Mount to Jews and tourists from 7:30 to 10 A.M. and from 12:30 to 1:30 P.M., via the Mugrabi Gate.

Before the outbreak of the second intifada in September 2000, these visits had to be coordinated with the Waqf religious trust, which is under Jordanian control. Between 2000 and 2003, non-Muslims were completely barred from the Temple Mount area, until the Israel Police decided unilaterally to reverse the ban.

A senior Jordanian source told Haaretz that the police must keep Jewish religious extremists away from the Temple Mount and keep the Mugrabi Gate closed. "That will calm the atmosphere while respecting the Jordanian role in Al-Aqsa Mosque," he said.

The Palestinian Authority, which also has an interest in calming the situation, is to hold negotiations on the rules for visiting the compound with Israel and the Waqf, with the aim of forging an agreement that will allow tourists to visit under the sole supervision of the Waqf.

Hatem Abdel Qader, PA adviser on Jerusalem affairs, who was arrested on suspicion of incitement three days ago and later released, approves of such an agreement. He says Israel's unilateral decision to let non-Muslims enter the Temple Mount offends Muslim worshipers because the women among the former often dress inappropriately.

U.S. diplomats, meanwhile, are pressuring both the PA and Israel to work to reduce tensions. U.S. officials have spoken with Abdel Qader and stressed that everyone involved must take action to prevent the situation from worsening. "We're not interested in an escalation," one Fatah official said, praising the decision by the Israel Police to keep the Mugrabi Gate closed on Monday.

There were a number of incidents across Jerusalem Monday: Near the Anata (Shuafat) refugee camp a Palestinian teen stabbed a Border Police officer, wounding him moderately, before being arrested. In the evening Palestinians threw rocks at police officers near the checkpoint at the camp's entrance.

In Ras al Amud, east of the Old City, four police officers were injured when Palestinian teenagers threw rocks at them; 10 suspects were arrested. Police officers dressed as Arabs arrested masked Palestinian teens who threw rocks at police after officers kept a large number of Palestinians from approaching the Old City and Temple Mount.

In the Wadi Joz neighborhood there was a confrontation between police officers and about 100 supporters of the Islamic Movement's northern branch when the police tried to approach the Old City. The crowd was dispersed with little violence.

It now appears, however, that the Islamic Movement's northern branch is trying to fan the flames. Sheikh Ra'ad Salah, the branch's leader, called on all Muslims on Monday to come to Al-Aqsa Mosque and remain inside for as long as it takes "to protect Al-Aqsa." He told an Arab television station that the Israeli occupation seeks to build a synagogue on Al-Aqsa Mosque.

"We call on everyone who is able to enter Al-Aqsa Mosque immediately and remain there for as long as required, for the sake of Al-Quds [Jerusalem] and for the sake of Al-Aqsa," Salah said in an interview.

"As long as there is occupation [by Israel], there is danger [to the mosque]. We must be in a state of constant readiness because of the potential damage to 1 billion Muslims. Al-Quds is ours and was, and is, sacred ground for Muslims. That is our position. We will not concede even if we die for this position. We will continue with these measures for as long as Al-Aqsa is under threat."

Commentator response: The international pressure is on and Israel no way wants to abide by what is demanded of it. So netanyahu and the moildvan get together and they have to come up with something. What is it? Ignite another intifada, blame it on the Arabs and say there is no way we can negotiate with terrorists. Create the conditions that spew up terrorists and you are safe. That is the strategy of this vile regime prepared to bring the entire region to the brink just so they can swagger and keep control and steal and scorn.
