Hi

Welcome to my blog.

I will be using it quite often, all are welcome to post comments, I do NOT moderate comments, your comment is your responsibility, if it's bad it reflects who you are, and it it's good it also reflects who you are. I will be replying (hopefully) to all comments that are constructive.

About myself: I have lived in Lebanese during the pre- and post-Syrian presence era (if i can call it so!)... so yes I lived the Hariri assassination... I have left Lebanon 2 years ago...

I will try to reflect the Syrian public opinion concerning Lebanon and many other things, because such point of view is mostly absent from this forum. I will also try to close the gap between our two peoples, since we live in the same region and shares the greatest part of our history!!

I am AGAINST any annexation of Lebanon to Syria, even if the lebanese themselves decide to accept!! Still, I think both countries should make every effort to work together and try to close the gaps. I believe that Syria has a historical role to play in Lebanon. This role is mostly economical and cultural.

I'll let you discover the blog.
Regards

The New Lebanon

21 May 2008: Doha agreement.

A new Lebanon was born.

This agreement has made obsolete the previous Taef agreement (30 september 1989) that has tried to define a post-war Lebanon that was characterized by an Arabic- and International-licensed syrian mandate.

Today's agreement will definitely change the region's situation -at least partly. The rebirth of Lebanon will make Syria, Israel, USA, Iran, France and Saudi Arabia change their calculations. They have reached a point where they all bounced away. The Game is being redefined.

What I believe -and I guess many people agree with me- is that this agreement will garantee a medium-term stability in Lebanon, a period that may last for up to 15 years (if not more -it all depends on the evolution of the lebanese people's maturity during this period).

As for the form of the agreement's result, just as the Taef has resulted in a Syrian mandate over Lebanon, the Doha agreement will definitely result in a different kind of mandate whose shape will get clearer in the few following months. Personnally, I forsee an Arab mandate (Arab = Gulf countries) that will NOT cancel Syria's and USA's political hegemony inside Lebanon.

A side note: the work that the Qataris did to solve this crisis is historical in that it shows how mature certain arab countries are, and how efficient they can be in solving critical problems that can definitely change the region's future to the best.
