A tribute to General Michel Aoun

For years and years, my friends who support either Lebanese Forces or Kataeb used to accuse Michel Aoun of sacrificing Lebanon – and the Christians - just in order to become president. They kept sending me emails and SMS accusing Aoun of becoming a puppet to Syria and to Iran just to become president. In order to preserve our friendship, I didn't reply to these messages, knowing that in current Lebanese society political discussion has became fruitless (it leads to nowhere; even worse, sometimes it breaks friendships).

Today, May 21st 2008, I am breaking this habit. I am sending an email to all my friends – especially those who support either Lebanese Forces or Kataeb – asking them to be just and to pay tribute to General Michel Aoun who has sacrificed his right of becoming president in order to win back to the Christians the right of choosing their own deputies.
From now on, the Christians in Beirut, Jezzine, Baabda, Zgharta, Kobayyat, etc… can choose freely their own deputies. They may choose between Aoun or Geagea or Gemayel or X or Y or Z or whomever they want. This is due to Aoun's firm standing on this matter.

I'm asking all my friends – especially those who support either Lebanese Forces or Kataeb – to be just and to pay tribute to General Michel Aoun who did what all other Christian leaders (both religious and political) have failed to do for the last 20 years.
For years and years to come, Lebanese Christian generations will always be grateful to General Michel Aoun for this achievement!

And for those who don't want to pay tribute, because they won't... Maybe they didn't understand... Maybe they didn't see... Maybe they don't want to confess... I just want them to think about what he achieved for them... really think deeply about it... ESPECIALLY IN ACHRAFIEH... He knows that they MAY vote against him and he insisted on fighting for them...
