One more vote for desktops.
I used to have a 17inch DELL, I got it for gaming and watching movies. The poor laptop didn't see the outside world since it was heavy and I was lazy to carry it around. While traveling, I used to end up with pain in my back and shoulders. The ideal choice is to get a gaming desktop and a small 13.3 or 14.1 laptop for mobility.
Anyway that depends on your situation, if you live somewhere beside your home and there's no place for a desktop, a gaming laptop is the only choice. Get a DELL, I've had mine since 2005 and I never experienced any hardware problem, except for the battery after 2.5 years. Personally, I would never buy any toshiba product after my experience with a laptop I bought in 2001
