If you want to start in the networking domain, obtaining CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) is the right thing to do. Then there will be the professional levels like CCNP or CCIP (internetwork prof.) or CCVP (voice prof.) or CCSP (security prof.) ... Just get the latest CCNA pdf file from the web, cisco press or Sybex and you can self study it (if you are having problems finding the correct pdf, PM me), then the final step before doing the exam is practicing the exam with the "pass4sure" and "testking" stuff, but leave that as the last stage.
