now those independents weren't even on the radar of otv, cuz otv was fishing fish out of its own bucket of partisans and not from the stream. there was no attempt to reach them.
so 70:30 %
becomes
70-15 : 30+15
55 : 45 %
then thx to lbc's reach to clueless independents abroad who believe its subtle lies, they came in and vote against us hence the end result is
51 : 49 %
a miracle really
so ya it's a big deal that otv was in a coma as far as getting a broader, even slim, audience that made a difference.
and no one can criticize otv if it has a low budget, but we can criticize it if regularly keeps us in the dark when elections tallies are not developping to our favor (otv switched to movies or documentaries or music clips at around 11pm on june7, & the day after the ghada eid scandal we were promised a tought rebutal at the evening news but ended up with a vietnam movie), when the news intros cost us independents to switch to other channels (we can have a census here about this), and when when very simple basic low level elements of professionalism are neglected (3 times gma talked to the masses b4 the elections while there was shadow cast on his face, in jbeil we didnt' even see his face and in baabda the camera was shaking which is better than her focus on very few empty chair in achrafieh was)..
lbc and ftv and mtv are no good, but otv is going the wrong way in facing them
many of us were pulling off rabits and elephants out of our hats to get an extra friend or family member to vote for us, but how many extra votes did otv get us ? |
Hi Red,
I would read those numbers within a different perspective.
25% at least of those who voted FPM in 2005 were independents. Or stayed undecided till the last minute. Those are strongly affected by the media game and by political statements occurring a week or two before elections.
Now is OTV doing it's job? This is highly arguable. Whatever you opinion is, FPM lost a lot of its support and OTV had the potential to prevent this, or at least minimize the damage.
This damage was done by loyalist media and propaganda. It was not Samir Geagea doing sob7iyyet from house to house trying to convince people of his political choice. It was constant artillery and carpet bombing being directed against Michel Aoun and FPM for a consecutive four years.
That said, Future TV is not the weapon being used either. Nor was it Mtv.
It was LBC. And LBC, my friend, are some nasty sophisticated brainers that have such a smooth way to communicate and propel an idea.
They do not say it straight. They just smoothly state you the facts in a chosen order within the appropriate presentation, and let you draw your own conclusions.
This has sadly proven to be so efficient.
On the other hand, in plain arabic: OTV bi dallo ktir 3eychina. Okay they're trying their best, new programs, good design and stuff. But seriously, they're always in a state of war! It's an orange copy of al-Manar and it would never attract people.
People! Be creative, learn from them! It's not about saying lies, just use their twisted ways to communicate. Being harsh - even if you're saying the truth - never attracts voters, it just makes them run away and jump in the warm bosom of LBC.
