To be fair, Italy played much better than Egypt. Just check the number of shots on goals of both teams. Iaquinta simply couldn't score although he had so many chances. Italy was simply unlucky tonight while Egypt scored from a corner thanks to Hommos
and that was enough for them to win.
IMO, having Cassano, Giovinco and Balotelli out of Italy's national selection is unjustifiable.
