Gender equality is a highly debated issue, and often interpreted in various ways.

What does it mean to you? How do you see the role of women and men in society? Do you support granting the women equal rights, on the fields of education, employment, marital issues, political life?

On the personal level, as a man how do you treat women/ your wife? Do you give her equal voice, do you support her aspirations?

As a woman how are you treated by men, do you feel yourself oppressed, or did you face any discrimantion?

I would love to see one day that women will be equal to men on earth on every field you mentioned. Women have gained alot of power in the 20th century specially in education, employment and marital issues. There are laws that protects women from descrimination specially in the western world. I am not too sure about Lebanon because there are still issues on who keeps the kids if there is a divorce. In the political life, I think most of the women do not like that field that much since we dont have many of them in politics even in he western societies. We are seing a colored person Obama who is the president of the most powerful state, maybe the next president will be a woman, who knows. I think we are gaining more and more power.

I have to add that on the education side, you will see more women studying in universities than men specially in the medicine field. In the science section (specially in engenering, you will see very few women), lets face it, there are subjects that intrest more men than women and vice-versa but in my opinion, we have gained alot of power since the 30s and we will gain more and more. I am not too sure what will happen in the islamic states such as afghanistan and other countries were women are not very protected from laws against their descriminitation. Lets wait and see.
