Absolutely correct. Historically, as hard evidences suggest, when the Islamic capital punishement code was enforced, the society was a much better and safer place. As Dalzi said, if you are scared of the punishement then do not do the crime. Simple! This is why there is this punishement; A deterrence.

For those who are asking for a change in the code: You are missing a thing or two here. Aside from being a sacred law, in most cases and if the victim forgives then there won't be capital punishement even in murders.
