A second-half goal by Sulley Muntari has given Internazionale a 1-0 Serie A win over Juventus at the Giuseppe Meazza.
The result extends Inter's lead at the top of the league to four points, although city rivals Milan can close the gap to one with a win at Torino on Sunday.
Inter created the best chances in an entertaining encounter that saw Juve play some good football but rarely threaten to score.
Zlatan Ibrahmovic missed a host of chances while he created opportunities for the returning Adriano and the impressive Muntari that stand-in keeper Alex Manninger did well to save.
When 'Ibra' fired wide for a second time after being put clean through it seemed that Juve would succeed in frustrating their host.
But a lucky break for Jose Mourinho's side saw Ghana midfielder Muntari arrive unmarked at the far post to tap in Ibra's mis-hit 73rd-minute shot.
Inter's Brazilian shot-stopper Julio Cesar made an acrobatic stop to deny Del Piero a headed equaliser and the home side hung on for a vital win.
Juve stay third after the defeat but could slip out of the top five if results go against them on Sunday. |
