Israel has the 4th strongest army in the world and yet every Israeli citizens has a machine gun, as much as Israel and the US like to complain about Hezbollah having weapons, Israel uses the same guerrilla tactics of arming normal citizens for local defense.
As strong army alone will not be able to hold Israel, you need at least to be the third strongest army or have peace with Israel, but then again wasn't switzerland neutral and at peace with Germany in 1939?
