Alright, Web 2.0 is merely a marketing term with some technical aspects.
Indeed, the web technology developed tremendously for some years, and without this development, websites like Facebook or Wikipedia wouldn't have existed.
Here's the list of some technical aspects of Web 2.0 applications:
- Cascading Stylesheets (CSS) + XHTML
- XML
- Java Scripting
- Syndication, aggregation and notification of data in RSS or Atom feeds
- etc..
The collaboration aspect of web forums is an important indicator when it comes to Web 2.0. But if you look at it from another perspective, a basic Web forum clearly lacks most of the above technical aspects.
