I assure you folks, the MOH did try to shut these practices down - I heard it straight from the minister and director general themselves. So did the order of physicians. Unfortunately they were unable to, because of the corruption within the state, as well as the backing of certain influentials behind these activities.
I have seen first hand how such 'medications' have sent countless of people to hospitals, often in life-threatening conditions. The problems usually associated with the use of these are because:
1) People stop their normal medications and take these instead
2) These substances may alter the bioavailability or effect of normal medications being treated (esp.for heart, diabetes and hypertension)
3) Some people seek these medications instead of normal ones, sometimes these offer cures for cancers, etc. After trying them and failing, it is often too late to use normal medication/treatment.
Of course these don't all apply perhaps to each product, but the problem is that Alternative medicine is not at all regulated in this country. Worse still is that media is rarely if ever held accountable.
Very disappointed that Otv took this on. Sh** happens, but they should stop them ASAP!
