who said anything about him being a slave? He truly believes his interests and those of his party lie with the Assad regime. he is doing it out of conviction, so no he is not a slave, a puppet perhaps.
As for the last comment, I already believe I answered it. He sees his interests and those of Lebanon if we want to go a bit farther correlating with those of the Assad regime. Many feel the contrary and want nothing to do with Syria except normal relations between the 2 countries.
