Israel is Assad's number one supporter in the Middle East. They just keep his regime in line, like you discipline your dog when he gets out of line. If a dog bites the hand that feeds him, that'll be the end of him. All Assad can do is threaten and manuever within a bubble, but he can't go too far out otherwise that bubble which also shields his regime will blow in his face.
