Maybe a war with Israel can prolong the life of the Syrian regime. They will militarily lose it, and a threat of a new Iraq will emerge; and only the Assad regime will be able to keep this threat from becoming a reality. Then it won't matter if the International Tribunal will condemn Syria, Bashar would have placed himself as a very valuable and necessary leader for Syria.
