Sabah Biography

Real name Jeanette Feghaly. Nicknamed "Shahrourat El Wadi" early in her career, Sabah has earned many more titles over her career (Ostourah , Sabbouha , Shahroura , Shahrourat Libnan ). Over a half century of singing makes SABAH the most recorded Arab singing artist in history with over 3,500 songs on records, cassette, CD, film, and in recording/broadcast studios throughout the world. Included here are MP3 songs, pictures, video clips and news of this great star!

Sabah was born in a small village named 'Beradoun' near El 'Shahrour Vally' at the north of Beirut, Lebanon. Her birth name is Janet Georgey Feghaly. She was the second daughter among 5 brothers & sisters, Lamiaa, Soad, Anton and Nagat. In 1937, She traveled to Cairo with her uncle's band, "Shahrour El Wady". They gave a concert on El Azbakyia Theater. During the Second World War, she went to the Lebanese Radio, to be tested infront of a committee for choosing the new singers, but she failed. She went out of the Radio crying. The great singer Faried El Attrash, who was in a visit to Lebanon at that time, saw her and tried to console her. He asked the committee to fix another date for testing her and they accepted. She passed the test and started singing. Accidentally, the producer Assia saw Sabah and cast her in two films. Her Salary for the first film was L.E 150,00. In 1945, Sabah and her father left to Cairo by train to work with Assia. Assia hired many writers and composers for training Sabah and presented her for critics and journalists in a dinner party held at her house.

The journalist Saleh Gawdat picked her the name of Sabah instead of Janet. Sabah starred in "El Qalb Loh Ahkam" film together with Anwar Wagdy, Mimi Shekib and Soliman Nagib.
The film songs were composed by Mohamed Abd El Wahab, Riad El Sonbaty, Zakaria Ahmed, Mahmoud El Sheriff and Mohamed El Qasabgy and written by Ahmed Ramy, Biram El Tonsy, Mamoun El Shenawy, Badea Khairy, Fathy Qoura and Saleh Gawdat.
It is directed by the Lebanese Henry Barakat. While visiting Lebanon, the director Abd El Fatah Hassan offered Sabah to make her second film "Awel El Shahr" with Hussein Sedqy and Halim El Romy, Magda El romy's Father. The film did not achieve success.
Then, Sabah performed her third successful film "Haza Ganaho Abby" which made her salary increased to 10000.000 L.E in only five years. Her next film was Niazy Moustafa's "Awel Nazra".
Starring George Shammas (Her first Husband Nagib Shamas' brother), Zozo Maddy and Hassan Fayeq. Sabah starred in another film produced by Assia entitled "Men El Qalb LelQalb" with Kamal El Shenawy but the film was burned in a fire flamed in Misr Studio.
She went back to Beirut where she married to Nagib Shammas. She made many films for the director Mohamed Salaman there as "Ahlan Belhob", "Rehlet El Saada" and Mawal".

Mohamed Salaman starred with her in film "Lebnany Fe El Gamaa" for the director Hussein Fawzy. Sabah was shocked after her mother, Mounira Samaan, was shot by her brother Anton (17 years old) because she betrayed his father with another actor named Khedr Aitany whom was killed also by Anton. Anton ran to Brazil to live with his relatives there until he reached 40. In 1981, he returned to Cairo to meet his sister Sabah who did not know him inspite she knew he was back. Sabah made about 84 films, 12 plays and sang more than 3000 song. As for her private life, She married Nagib Shammas and had her son Sabah Shammas (who lives in America), Anwar Mansy and had her daughter Hewayeda who acted in film "Nar El Shouq" with her, a Khaligi man descended from the royal family but the marriage was not published officially.
