The 3rd day of the Europa Liga group rounds produced some thrills and chills and plenty of late goals.
- Lazio stunned Villareal in the last minute to emerge victorious 2-1 despite playing with 10 men in the 2nd half.
- Roma continued the habbit of the Italien clubs scoring late with an equalizer in the dying seconds to draw 1-1 away to fluham.
- Shakhtar the holding champions brushed aside Toulouse 4-0.
- Benfica crushed Everton 5-0.
- Dutch side Heerenveen produced the shock of the night with a 1-0 away victory against Hertha Berlin.
- Dutch leaders FC Twente fell miserably to Sherif Tiraspol of Moldova 2-0.
- Ajax put on a fantastic display with the sublime Luis Suarez to beat Croatia Zagreb 2-1 in a tense encounter . Ajax took the lead in the 2nd minute after Suarez was held in the penalty box to earn his side a penalty which he cooly converted. Ajax continued to press and Suarez and De Zeeuw hit the post twice in the 2nd half. Before Suarez provided Rommedahl with a tip-tap ball infront of the goal and Rommedahl made no mistake to make it 2-0. There was drama later on as Romecsak scored a very late goal for Zagreb in the 91st minute but Ajax held on to move to the 2nd spot in the group. |
