Gender equality is a highly debated issue, and often interpreted in various ways. |
The right for women to be women and the right for men to be men. That should sum up my understanding of equality. I don't like to see women turning masculine or men turning feminine. Does this make sense?

How do you see the role of women and men in society? Do you support granting the women equal rights, on the fields of education, employment, marital issues, political life?

Behind every great man is a great woman ;) Mothers create societies, if they're not properly created :P, society is bound to rot.

As a woman how are you treated by men, do you feel yourself oppressed, or did you face any discrimantion?
|
Men treat women better than women treat women, no? No, i've never felt opressed and I've never faced any discrimination based on gender.
On another note, societies that oppress women are just as bad as societies that use women as objects and legalize prostitution. I don't call those modern, I call them rotten. It's funny how women think that they're given 'freedom' or 'equality' when they are used in such a cheap manner. If you want to consider a woman as an equal, you start by treating her with respect.
Thank you for this thread Salome.

Women should have also the right to have custody after divorce in some countries she has no right to keep her kids this isn't fair for the mum nor the kids..
|
Islamic law gives men custody over chidlren (at a certain age) because it's a man's responsibility to
financially support the children who carry
his name. I don't believe that a woman should have custody over her children just like that, blindly; rather each divorce case should be dealt with separately. If the kids are in better hands with their father, then they should be with him; if they're in better hands with the mother, then they should be with her. As a judge, I wouldn't like to see kids being raised by a morally bankrupt mother/father (for example). If they're both not worth having children, then the kids should be taken from them. (Assuming that we have a proper fair and just legal system).
