Equality might be a misleading word, and sadly many women interpret it wrong and think it makes them look stronger if they appear more masculine.
By equality I wouldnt mean erasing the difference in appearance and behaviour, but more on a social and humanistic level.
In many developing countries women have no say in social life, and are not considered equal human beings. Though it might seem like these are the extreme cases, but sadly it concerns the majority of the women in this world. Seemingly it takes generations to break through the fabric of these traditional societies.
Now back to the more modern societies, even there the picture varies by culture. In some cultures the women are more acceptive, and are in peace with their silent role, and give way to the men to lead. In others, they demand equal participation and aspire for leading positions.
How do you see the cases when a woman's aspiration might conflict with family? Would strong traditions and social roles win over in the end, and the woman has to seek compromise and give up on self aspirations? |
